SMOG WEEKEND
The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome
September 13-14, 2025

Fellow Rogues, Scoundrels, and Highwaymen:
Each year in Vermont many individuals lament that they may not see many of the members of our "Vermont Group" again until the following spring. That is certainly an undesirable circumstance.
Summer Motorcycle Overnight Getaway (SMOG) Weekends are the solution! Each trip has a unique destination and a related theme. We depart Gaby’s Café (gabyscafe941nj.com) in Frenchtown, NJ on Saturday mornings, travel great roads during the day on Saturdays, enjoy exceptional company at dinner on Saturday evenings, and then retrace the route and return home late Sunday afternoons.
Our SMOG Weekend for September 13-14 will take us up the Hudson River valley to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in Rhinebeck, NY, a living history museum, for a Saturday afternoon airshow featuring vintage aircraft from the the 1920s and 1930s known as the Golden Age of Aviation. One of the jewels in the museum's collection includes a precise replica of The Spirit of St. Louis flown by Charles Lindbergh from New York to Paris in 1927... And it still flies in the airshows!!! You can even arrange for a barnstorming flight in an open cockpit biplane if you feel adventurous. However, if you wish to keep your feet on the ground, there is plenty to see in the halls of the museum. Here is the website where you can purchase tickets to the airshow (which includes admission to the museum) and preview what the Aerodrome has to offer: oldrhinebeck.org

It will be "kickstands up" promptly at 9:00AM on Saturday morning at Gaby’s Café (gabyscafe941nj.com) in Frenchtown, NJ and we should arrive our destination in the early afternoon which will provide plenty of time for wandering around the museum's exhibition halls and catch the airshow. This will be a leisurely and comfortable ride of approximately 175 miles on backroads of New Jersey and New York. Route details to be provided as the date draws nearer.
Late in the day on Saturday we will "go west" and cross the Kingston Rhinebeck Bridge headed to the Super 8 by Wyndham in Kingston where we will be staying that night. It is located near the historic Stockade District and is a short Uber ride away from several dining options. Unfortunately, many of the hotels in the Kingston-Rhinebeck region are unexpectedly pricey in September. Perhaps it is attributable to Fall Foliage sightseeing. Nevertheless, make your reservation early. A room at the Wyndham with two double beds or one king will set you back about $150 with a AAA discount if you reserve now. Note that prices quoted by Wyndham's website are sensitive to the use of discount codes selected via the "Rate Applied" button. Click here to make your reservation now.
If you are flying solo and want to share a room with someone Saturday night, let me know and I will put you in touch with other solo riders.
"How do I participate in this experience?" you ask. Here are the three simple steps:
-
Advise me that you will be joining us (just send me an email at the address appearing below);
-
Make your hotel reservation (selecting the refundable option in the event the weather gods frown upon us); and
-
Arrive at Gaby’s Café (gabyscafe941nj.com) in Frenchtown, NJ with a full tank of gas and be prepared for a "kickstands up" departure at 9:00AM.
Rain date? Think positively.
If you have any questions or plan to join us, email me at WanderlustRidersNJ@gmail.com. (Be sure to include the "NJ".)
